TO SELL OR RENOVATE

Team member John Maiorino has experienced this topic first hand. Over the next several blogs we hope to share his experience with you. Here's John's story:
There are a number of you that are wondering whether they should renovate their current home or sell and purchase a new home. I can tell you from first hand experience what life is like living through renovations. One of the initial steps you should do is research, research, research.
Research Begins with ...
Ours began with the Greater Vancouver Homebuilders Association, often they will sponsor information seminars. The next biggest decision is "How much money do I want to spend?" An important factor in this decision is “will the changes that I am making have an impact on the value of my home?” As an example, just because you think adding a closet to the bedroom adds value, a homebuyer may not think so!! What the industry typically says is that the best return on investment is Kitchens and Bathrooms.

We have a great brochure that gives hints on renovating tips to maximize value. It's called the Smart Renovators Guide
Our Story
We chose Kerr Construction to complete our work. They have been great and we are pleased with the progress so far. As everyone should be (and we were warned about), be prepared for the unexpected, in our case it was the drain tiles, this is an expense we were not prepared to pay for, but that needed to be done. There is an old saying that we have heard from many people during this process, “double the money and triple the time” I will endeavor to keep you updated on the progress of our renovations, we are in week 5 of a 15 to 17 week schedule (they are a little behind at the moment).
